Basics
Tools How to start Making manga

Other tools
they are basically not so special. Many of them are drafting tools.

Pencil

Mechanical pencil
Many people use a mechanical pencil instead of a pencil nowadays. Usually the lead is "B"-"2B", 0.5mm.
I use B and HB.

I also use 0.3mm(B), for fine drawing fine parts. (Basically to draw background)

Blue lead
Light blue lines do not show when you make copies and print. So having one mechanical pencil for blue line is very useful when you make point for background, note, some guide and screen tone.

Eraser

Plastic Eraser
Tonbo-mono bland is most popular and the best one, I think.

Pen-type eraser (Photo Mono; Knock3.8)
I can't draw background without this(pencil work). If you want to draw real background, it must be quite useful.

Sand-eraser (for typewriter)
It's used to give gradation effect on screentone. ( I hardly do it. Because the effect doesn't work when the printing quality isn't good)

Pen

Nib
Here are some popular pen-nibs. If it is possible, I recommend you giving a try all of them and choice your favorite one. I use G-pen and Maru-pen

G-pen
Most popper nib. Basically use to ink characters.

Saji(Spoon)-pen
As G-pen, mainly it's use to ink characters. Harder touch than G-pen.

Maru-pen
You can draw both thick and fine line.Basically it's use to draw fine lines, especially for shojyo manga.

Holder

For Maru-pen nib

For other pen nib

Line pen

I use them to draw flames/background and sound effects. But some manga artist use them to draw both characters and backgrounds. 0.05mm-1.0mm
Marker-pen
For sound effects.

Ink (Black and White)

Black
If you use nib-type pen, you need it.
I recommend "Manga-Ink". There are many kinds of "ink for manga" so you can chose one depend on your purpose. When you draw B&W manga, you should chose the one the color won't rub off when you use an eraser. My favorite is this, Kaimei-drawing zol.

All kind of Manga-inks are dry very quickly. Don't keep the cap open even when you are drawing, otherwise it will be too thicken up soon. If it was thicken, add some water.

White
Like black ink, there are many comic-white. You can use "poster-color white", but "Bleed proof" type is best.

Ruler

As you know, there are many kinds. Ruler and Curve

Brush

For black and white ink. Use Japanese or Chinese type.

Screen-Tone

Many, many kinds of them!!! They are too many to know everything.
Gray: 50line-60line, 10%-30% is standard. Very fine, light, or thick one is sometimes not printed well.
